Fair Credit Reporting Act, 1970, 1996 (FCRA)

Designed to promote accuracy, fairness, and privacy of information in the
files of every “consumer reporting agency” (CRA). Most CRAs are credit
bureaus that gather and sell information about consumers; for example bills are paid on time or if an individual has filed bankruptcy—to creditors,
employers, landlords, and other businesses.
