Maintaining Access Control

How do you effectively make certain that you are doing everything possible
to maintain the security of your PDA device? One good method
involves building on the access control configuration options defined earlier
in this chapter. It is not enough to establish a PIN to lock down your
device on startup or lock it again if not used for a certain period of time;
you need to configure a way to shut down the device after a specific number
of unsuccessful attempts to access your device. Maintaining access
control prevents unauthorized users from accessing your PDA’s internal
data. After too many attempts, the device should have a safeguard that
allows it to lock down so that only the owner can reactivate the device.
When the user regains access to his PDA, he or she can securely reset
the PIN and choose a new PIN to gain normal access to the device. This
type of setup allows for a maximum level of security so that no unauthorized
user is able to continue trying different codes in attempt to gain
fraudulent access to the PDA.
